A Fast Growing e-commerce Market
There will be more than 3 billion internet users across the world by the end of 2014. Regarding mobile-cellular there will be 7 billion users at the end of the year. Europe has the highest internet penetration rate (75%). E-commerce is without any contest an important factor of growth for a continent whose economy is in trouble. Growth estimates (eMarketer) suggest business-to consumer (B2C) e-commerce sales worldwide could reach $ 1.5 trillion this year. This is an increase by 20% compared to the previous year. The most popular e-commerce categories not surprisingly are the purchase of clothing, books, cosmetics and airline and hotel reservations. It can be expected that the number of e-shoppers will grow exceptionally, thanks to a multiplication of services and to payments using highly advanced and secured techniques. And one should not forget that Internet allows enterprises to do business at a relatively low cost. This is particularly important in emerging countries. It is estimated that India has an Internet user base of about 300 million people and Europe 550 million. But in Europe 280 million people are already e-shoppers. Brits and Germans spend the more online with respectively €950 and €650 per year. The e-commerce has grown dramatically but remains in an early stage. Obviously, it will continue to expand around the world.
