Technology vs Jobs ?

The effects of new technologies on jobs are already very significant. For the time being, the consequences for employment are clearly negative. Add to that a difficult social environment marked by a chronic unemployment in many European countries such as Spain, Italy or France. And, obviously, this wave of technological innovation which leads to a serious disruption to the job market is in its early stages. It should be stressed that the main current concern of many governments is to increase the productivity and competitiveness of their industry. By all accounts, the labor productivity depends primarily on the rate of technological progress. Thus, the risk of the euro zone to lag behind the US can clearly be explained by lower level investments in new technologies (2% of the GDP in the euro zone and 4% in the US). A recent study by the Oxford University estimated that 47% of today's jobs could be automated in the next two decades. Semiskilled or unskilled workers are the first to be affected by the spread of these new technologies (artificial intelligence, robots etc...), but not only. Moreover, 30% of companies with more than 500 employees admit they have replaced humans with automated technologies. The social impact of such a disruption will be hugely important and governments across the world will have a hard time finding responses. A major renewal of education systems and institutions will be the starting point to tackle this difficult matter.
