Solar Projects could shine again

The indian coal industry is the third largest in the world in terms of production. But 90% of its coal production comes from open-cast mining. This explains the disastrous environmental impact of this industry. As a result water and air pollution caused by carbon dioxide or mercury emissions are responsible of many diseases which affect mainly the underprivileged population. This is for the government a major cause for alarm. Another reason for action and investing in clean energy is that India is densely populated and has high solar insolation with about 300 sunny days a year. Add to this consideration the failing prices of photovoltaic panels and you'll understand the strong will of the indian authorities to give this industry a boost. The State of Gujarat has been a leader in solar power generation and contributes nearly 2/3rd of 600 MW which are produced in the country. Next to Gujarat, Rhajastan is India's sunniest State. This is where the largest solar project is located. It is expected with a capacity of 50 MW to meet the demand of 25 million homes. This project will also offset about 75,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions every year. Renewable energies, India is already a leader in wind power generation, have undoubtely a bright future.
