Here is the unpretentious message we send to an overambitious business Icon

"OnInnovation Interview: Elon Musk" (CC BY-ND 2.0) by OnInnovation

He is probably one of the most brilliant businessmen in the world. But without doubt, the compliment he prefers is: "You are a true visionary Mr Musk". Here on earth, some of us share the belief that priority projects should focus on the current needs of humanity. One of Musk's latest projects is to colonize the planet Mars. He has a plan to get humans to Mars by 2024. And he wants to have a million people there in 40 to 100 years. The transport system alone would cost $30 Billion. A figure that could be severely underestimated. If Elon Musk wants to colonize Mars it is because he believes that our good old mother earth is in terminal decline or at least in critical state. But in doing so, he delivers a very pessimistic message about the future of humankind. Our message is that immediate and concrete action must be taken in relation with the earth's ecosystem and with human food security. Obviously, Mr Musk in tandem with all of his exciting space projects could also invest in new technologies aimed to protect our oceans and waterways. They provide the main source of protein for more than a billion people. Unfortunately, our oceans and seas have become garbage dumps, due notably to plastic waste. If we do not take drastic measures "we will have more plastic than fish in our oceans" (foundation E. Mc Arthur). Elon Musk could easily contribute to the development of new technologies in this field. It certainly looks less glamour than the colonization of another planet. But it will bring immediate benefits to humankind.
