Another German Performance

Lets focus on Germany's employment market. Germany alike many other countries in the world try to attract skilled labour. Yet it's policy is in contrast to most of the other EU members where unemployment has reached, except during war period, an all-time high. The country's unemployment rate due to the economy downturn in Europe increased to 7.4% in January 2013 from 6.70% in December 2012. These figures remain,if we consider the average unemployment rate in the Eurozone which is at 11.9%,excellent. However if we compare to Switzerland which unemployment rate in January 2013 was 3.40%,we might consider that Germany's job market could even grow better with a well adapted migration policy. A recent OECD report emphasized that Germany should urgently liberalise the recruitment of foreign workers in order to fill a projected shortfall of 5.4 million workers by 2025! With its powerful industry and its ranking as a leading exporting country in the world Germany needs first to attract engineers. The recent reforms which passed have put Germany among the countries with the fewest restrictions on labour migration for highly skilled jobs. The global economy slowdown which led in many countries hit by the crisis to massive unemployment among young graduates should help Germany achieve its objective.
