Here are the major facts presented by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO-UN) in its 2021 report. It must be stressed that food insecurity has been climbing for six years and now affects more than 30% of the world population. This figure is still considerable. You should also now that globally food insecurity is higher among women than men. Many young women suffer from anemia. Climate-related disasters and conflicts obviously worsen the malnutrition of these populations. The report estimates that between 720 and 800 million people in the world faced hunger in 2020. And nearly 2.30 billion people did not have access to adequate food during the period under review. And child malnutrition is still a major challenge particularly in Africa and Asia. It must also be underline that the world food system remains very fragile. The supply difficulties that arose during the Covid-19 pandemic are a warning to governments around the world. The new developments of this pandemic should particularly alert the authorities in charge of food. It is worth remembering that food security is a major element of stability in the world.
